Research

Research you can build on.

Trove research doesn't end with a summary — it ends with a brief: findings organized by the decision you need to make, with sources attached so you can verify what matters. And it stays in your workspace, so next week's document can cite this week's research.

Specialty coffee wholesale — market scan

Prepared for Ember & Oak · October 2026 · 6 sources

Finding 1

Regional chains buy local, but audit hard

Chains with 8–30 locations prefer regional roasters for freshness story, but require documented QC: cupping logs, roast-date guarantees, and 48-hour fulfillment SLAs. Two of the three chains interviewed dropped a roaster over missed deliveries, not price.

Finding 2

The pricing gap sits at 5lb

12oz wholesale clusters tightly at $13–15/lb with little room to move. The 5lb food-service tier is less efficient — most roasters underprice it to win accounts, then get stuck. Roasters holding a 55%+ margin on 5lb win fewer accounts but keep them longer.

Finding 3

Inference: our edge is reliability, not price

Ember & Oak's 81% capacity with zero missed roast days is the actual pitch. Price 5lb at the margin floor and sell the SLA — competing on price in this tier is a losing game the data doesn't support.

  1. 1Ask

Pose the question you'd ask a good analyst.

  2. 2Research

Trove reads widely and keeps track of every source.

  3. 3Brief

Findings organized by decision, inference labeled as inference.

  4. 4Cite

The brief is saved — future work cites this month's scan.

What you get

  • Decision-oriented briefs, not link dumps
  • Sources attached to claims
  • Clear separation of evidence and inference
  • Saved in your workspace for future work

01Organized by decision

A research brief answers the question you actually asked — should we launch this, what do competitors charge, where's the gap — instead of dumping everything the internet knows about a topic.

02Sources you can check

Claims link to where they came from. The brief distinguishes what the sources support from what's inference, so you know what to trust and what to verify.

03Compounds over time

Research lives in your workspace, not in a dead chat. Next month's pricing memo can build on this month's market scan without starting from zero.

Frequently asked

Can I check the sources?

Yes — claims link to where they came from, so you can verify what matters.

How is this different from search?

Search gives you links. Trove reads, synthesizes, and organizes by the decision you need to make.

Does the research persist?

Yes — briefs live in your workspace, so later documents build on them.
